Industrial coffee roasters
An industrial coffee roaster is equipment used to convert the physicochemical properties of green (raw) coffee beans into roasted beans suitable for consumption. This process, known as pyrolysis, requires rigorous control of heat transfer and airflow to ensure repeatability of the sensory profile and energy efficiency of the operation.

The industrial process uses three main forms of thermal energy:

- Convection: Hot air circulates between the beans. This is the most efficient method in modern machines to ensure uniform roasting.

- Conduction: Heat is transmitted through direct contact of the coffee with the heated metal surfaces (drum walls).

- Radiation: Heat emitted by the heated internal parts of the equipment.

Types of Industrial Equipment:

- Drum Roasters: The coffee rotates inside a horizontal cylinder. They are versatile and allow for meticulous control over flavor development.

- Fluid Bed Roasters (Air Roasters): Use high-pressure air currents to suspend and roast the beans.

- Continuous Roasters: High-performance equipment designed for the uninterrupted processing of large volumes. They operate through a constant inflow and outflow.

Main Components:

- Feed Hopper:
This is the funnel located at the top of the machine. Its function is to store the load of green coffee that will be poured into the drum as soon as the previous batch is finished.

- Roasting Chamber or Drum:
The heart of the machine. Usually constructed of carbon steel or cast iron, it is where the beans are moved and exposed to heat so that the chemical reactions of caramelization occur.

- Burner System:
The equipment's heat source, usually fueled by gas (LPG or Natural). In industrial models, the flame power is electronically adjusted to follow strict temperature curves.

- Cyclone Film Collector:
During roasting, coffee releases a thin husk (film). The cyclone uses centrifugal force to separate these flammable residues from the hot air, ensuring cleanliness and safety during operation.

- Cooling Table:
A circular platform with a perforated bottom and rotating arms. As soon as the coffee reaches the ideal temperature, it is poured onto this table, where a powerful exhaust fan pulls cold air through the beans to immediately stop roasting.

- Control Panel and Software:
The intelligence center. Monitors bean temperature, air temperature, and roasting time in real time, allowing the master roaster to replicate the same standard across thousands of bags.

Industrial Model Advantages:

- Scalability: Capacities starting at 15kg and exceeding 300kg per batch.

- Robustness: Equipment designed to last for decades, withstanding aggressive thermal cycles (up to 250°C or more).

- Standardization: The embedded technology ensures that batch number 1 has exactly the same flavor as batch number 100, something vital for maintaining coffee brands in the market.
